Need: The Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion is an organization that focuses on enhancing teaching and education through specialized activities for professors and faculties. The website offers online application functionality to its users that must be ingested into their internal systems, and the Wabash team also maintains a massive database of contacts, programs, and resources that must be reflected accurately on their website.
The resulting need is a way for the two to interface with each other on a regular basis, keeping both up-to-date as mirror reflections of each other.
Solution: The Wabash Center's internal database system is maintained by another vendor that specializes in Filemaker Pro, and we are always ready and willing to collaborate with other vendors that our clients rely on.
Together we authored an export process from the website to Filemaker. Each night, automated scripts run to export all the online applications that Wabash offers for a variety of grant opportunities, programs, and courses. Applicants visit the site and register, and their contact information, application data, and various document attachments are exported and sent to Filemaker on a regular schedule.
Filemaker also sends an export each night for the website. The site captures a variety of contact information, grant opportunities, resources, and activities from the export and updates the site's database. The process is intricately built to avoid versioning problems and duplication.
Through discussions, planning, and collaboration with our client's Filemaker vendor, Highland was able to create a process that allows the website and Filemaker to talk to each other, keeping content up-to-date without any manual labor on the part of the client. The needs are always changing, and Highland continues to work with our client to keep this process running smoothly.
